The Stewards Class -

Hope Mills United Methodist Church

[RETURN TO SUNDAY SCHOOL PAGE]

Formerly referred to as Young Stewards, this class is made up of a variety of adults from mid twenties to fifties.    The weekly lesson comes from the  Adult Bible Studies International Lesson  Series from Cokesbury and is presented in an historical setting using lecture style presentation with class participation on selected points and issues.  Class members offer their talents in reading of scripture and thought provoking discussion. The team teachers are Jim Sheckels and Nancy Wall. Class President is Chuck & Rose Gibson.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT:

The Christian is to live as a good steward. "So then, men ought to regard us as Servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God.  Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful" - 1 Corinthians 4: 1-2, NIV

INSIGHT:

A steward is not an owner; a steward is a representative, an ambassador of another. It is his responsibility to administer and represent the possessions and affairs of another. When decisions are made, he makes them not on the basis of his own interests but in the interest of the one whom he is representing.  Therefore, the primary responsibility of a steward is that he be faithful to represent the interests of his superior-not to misappropriate his resources or misrepresent his interests.

OUR VISION:

We are to be good stewards of God.

A STEWARD'S PRAYER

We praise the Lord with joy because He gives us grace to act properly with pure motives: Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise.

For the Lord is good (Psalm 100:1-5).

Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands (Psalm 90:17).
